DESCRIPTION
Located in a hotbed of restaurants and bars in the tourist-heavy Southside Flats, Piper's Pub continues to be a local favorite for United Kingdom expats and Pittsburgh natives alike. Though it can be full at 11 am for football games, you'll find no Steelers memorabilia here. But if you're pining for English Premier League football (i.e. soccer), a single malt Scotch or some shepherd's pie, this is your place for all things British Isles. The trademark green tin ceiling, the intimate bar next to the dining room, and walls adorned with vintage Guinness advertisements and photos of historic British sites set Piper's apart from other increasingly marketable "Irish pubs" featuring shamrocks and buffalo wings. Menu options span the cuisines of Ireland, Scotland and England. Start with a Ploughman's Platter, an assortment of English cheeses, apples, gherkins and apple chutney served with bread. For hearty appetites, there's the bangers and mash or the Guinness stew. For those preferring domestic cuisine, Piper's has plenty of traditional American dishes."
"We can vouch for the lamb and chestnut stew, a humongous serving of ground lamb and meaty nuts sharing space with big chunks of well-cooked but firm vegetables hidden under a mattress of flaky pastry. All three stews and pies we tried are held together by an abundance of thick, bland gravy."
- Alice T. Carter, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, April 10, 2008
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Sat-Sun brunch 8:30 am-3 pm.
