Another major coup for East Nashville's Greenwood neighborhood! Nashville's most beloved mobile food purveyor, Mas Tacos Por Favor, has grown up and decided to settle down in this up and coming cute little area - not unlike many first-time homeowners. Housed in a nondescript cinder block building, formerly occupied by a "DELI" according to its signage (though we never saw anyone walking out with a pastrami on rye, just sayin'), Mas Tacos combines kitschy fun with some seriously good street food. The sign out front now reads "DELIcious," and false advertising, it certainly is not. The chalkboard menu varies, but the usual rotation of tacos double wrapped in corn tortillas includes a standout cast iron skillet chicken taco, with tomatillo salsa, charred jalapenos, sour cream, onions, salsa and lime. The pulled pork taco doesn't disappoint either, with tomatillo salsa, red cabbage (some nice roughage for texture), spicy dill yogurt, lime and cilantro. Vegetarians are far from forgotten with offerings such as fried avocado or quinoa tacos as well. The tortilla soup is exquisite. And the corn. Merciful heavens, the corn. Grilled and topped with cheese, lime and a blend of spices (cayenne, habanero and salt), it's one of the most dynamic food items in town. Extra points for the decorative cacti, colorful bric-a-brac on the walls, and a free jukebox, which features some Herb Alpert and the Tijuana brass - befitting the theme - and Puttin on the Ritz, by none other than Taco. To drink, there are the ultra-refreshing, house-made aguas frescas and Mexican (read: sugar instead of corn syrup) bottled Coke.
