A rare independently owned restaurant in the Nashville West shopping center, NY Pie's thin-crust brick oven pizzas are a fresher and tastier alternative to your average chain/delivery pies. Owner Greg Moyer, who worked in pizzerias as a teen-ager in New Jersey (meh, close enough), opened NY Pie in 2010, his third pizzeria but first in Nashville. There are a handful of tables inside, but most business comes from takeout orders. The excellent crust is thin but chewy and definitely ideal for folding, and the pizza is available by the slice or whole pie. Starting with the dough (never frozen) and made-from-scratch sauce, the fresh ingredients make a difference. We'd recommend the NY Veggie and the NY Special, but you can mix and match toppings on your 10-, 14- and 18-inch pies. Stromboli, calzone and salads also are available.
