Urban Grub

615-679-9342  •  $$$
ADDRESS: 2506 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204
CUISINE: Brunch, Oysters, Southern, Charcuterie, American Traditional
FEATURES: Full Bar, Handicap Access, Kid Friendly, Patio Seating, Smoke Free, Vegetarian Friendly
DESCRIPTION
Already a jam-packed highlight of the burgeoning 12 South neighborhood, Urban Grub shoots to be a combination "fish pit and Southern cantina" with its arsenal of fresh fish and seafood, freshly shucked oysters, and smoked and grilled meats and vegetables. Packed houses every night mean Urban Grub won't be as laid-back as the wonderfully designed indoor-outdoor space - long-time site of a car wash - promises to be until the buzz settles into something more manageable. Urban Grub is the brainchild of noted Nashville restaurateur Jay Pennington (ex South Street and Boundry, of late The Local Taco) and partner William Inman. As was the case with The Local Taco, talented former Zola chef Deb Paquette (now of the new Etch restaurant downtown) helped conceptualize the menu. Early highlights from Chef Edgar Pendley (ex-Sperry's) include: Southern charcuterie board, shrimp and grits, double-cut pork chop, and fish specials such as grilled grouper. Recommended sides include smoked gouda chipotle grits, stone-oven mac and cheese, Cuban corn and potato salad hash browns, the latter every bit as decadent as you'd imagine.
"Do the food and beverages live up to the promise of the space? The overriding answer is yes."
- Nancy Vienneau, for The Tennessean, July 8, 2012
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Full bar. Serving dinner Tue-Sun. Sat-Sun brunch 11 am-3 pm. Closed Mon.
